Clinical work

We provide a full range of services aimed at meeting all the health needs of small animal owners. These can include vaccinations, obesity control programmes, pregnancy scanning, dental scaling, flea control, worming advice, X ray diagnoses, microchipping, pet export certification and much more.

Our clinic is somewhat unique in New Zealand in that clients do not need to make an appointment. Anyone can simply walk in to the clinic with their pet and a vet will attend your requirements - usually without having to wait very long.

Surgery

All routine surgery such as speying / neutering / dentistry is performed at the clinic every day of the week as well as the full surgical management of disease conditions such as twisted stomachs, bladder stones, lump removal, cancer surgery etc. We have at least one surgeon carrying out surgery all day every day.

Hospitalisation

Wanganui Veterinary Services has a large area for hospitalised patients of all types with cages for over 50 animals including an isolation ward for the containment of infectious diseases. We have trained vet nurses responsible for this area at all times as some cases need to be hospitalised for significant periods and require constant monitoring and frequent treatments.

Referrals

We are fortunate to have a very experienced and respected orthopaedic surgeon - Pieter Verhoek, the current president of the Companion Animal Society of the NZVA as part of the WVS team. His special ability enables us to offer an orthopaedic referral service to neighbouring practices for those difficult cases.
