Clinical Work
We provide all the usual veterinary services to our 650 farmer clients. Most of the work load with production animals now involves preventative health programmes and assisting with maximising farm production. This can involve such activities as trace element monitoring, pregnancy testing, TB testing, artificial insemination, stag velveting etc as well as the more routine 'fire brigade' type routine disease treatment work
Most of our farm vets have worked in the area for more than ten years and this has enabled them to build up a lot of local knowledge about such things as mineral deficiencies, facial eczema risk areas, liver fluke farms etc. It also means that they have established a high level of mutual trust and respect with farmer clients |

Farm Consultancy
We also offer a farm consultancy / advisory service in all areas of animal production systems. This may be in the form of a one-off visit or as part of an ongoing programme of assistance with assisting clients to maximise farm production.
John Pickering in particular is an accredited Intelact consultant. He has extensive dairy, sheep and beef experience. He is kept busy assisting farmers in a range of situations from dairy flats to hard Wanganui hill country.

Farm Contracting
Wanganui Veterinary Services also offer a service of assisting farmers with any animal health treatments for their stock. This can involve anything from visiting a small block to castrate three lambs to visiting a larger farm to drench and vaccinate 7000 ewes.
We have a conveyor for most of this work staffed by skilled technicians - this concept allows for more animal-friendly handling, faster administration of treatments and obviates the need for clients to find casual labour for these tasks. |
